WORKER'S GAZETTE
Worker's Gazette is a satirical newsletter exploring a fictional dormitory during the COVID-19 pandemic in Singapore. It is to raise awareness of the lived experience of the migrant workers in Singapore who were not allowed to go anywhere other than their dormitory or work to reduce social interactions and minimize the spread of COVID-19.

DESIGN PROCESS
Inspiration and References
For this project, we needed to work on a social issue in South East Asia. After discussing various interesting topics, we realized that we wanted to do something that was somewhat obscure to Singaporeans.
We then came upon the idea of exploring the lives of migrant workers during the Pandemic from 2020 to 2021 where they are not allowed to go anywhere other than their dormitories or their workplace. Essentially, many of them felt like it was like "prison"
Interviews and Research
I was working at the dormitories and thus had first-hand information on the current situation that they live in.
I then collated various Anecdotes, and compelling stories from the Clinic Supervisor, the Nurse, the Dormitory Supervisors, the Swab Assistants and their Resident Grocer; and researched the current events happening in the dormitories during this period.
Layout Research
We then decided to research the different newsletters and layouts to see anything we were interested in using or referencing such as fact boxes and coupons,
Color Study
For the Gazette we decided to go for an earthy look thus we used light brown and yellow to give off a sense of belonging and optimism when receiving such a newsletter during the Covid period.
Typography
We then decided to use Sans Serif Font to give the Newspaper a Fresh Modern look and a Serif font for the Main title to make it standout.

We decided to use the Capitalized Bebas Neue Bold for the titles to draw the user's attention while we used Monsterrat Light for the paragraph texts to save space.
Article Writing
After Collating the information and deciding the design system for the newsletter we split the number of articles between the both of us and start writing articles about the topics that we had researched on.
Satirization
For our final step, we then re-looked at our articles and tried to make the articles funny and over the top to comment on how ridiculous some situations might be.

We wanted to create an impression of an amazing dormitory with "no" defects but in one look, the users would know that the newsletter is basically propaganda for the people that stay within the dormitory.

We then gathered feedback from our classmates and implemented some of the jokes and tried to make it even more over the top to dramatize the overall situation.
